I adore dogs. I grew up in a dog-loving family, a tradition I have maintained. Dogs have always been a part of my life and feature on my blog.
The first dog I can recall is Trixie, a rescue from Battersea. I must have been three years of age, but I can remember her gentleness.
Over the years, I have also had cats. As an animal lover, there are few I dislike, and dogs remain my favourite.
Why do I love dogs?
- They’re fantastic company
- They are loyal
- They’re always pleased to see you, even if you’ve been out of the room for five minutes
- They offer comfort
- They listen to every word you say
- They can make you feel safe
- They don’t answer back!
- They ensure that you, as well as them, get exercise -whatever the weather
- They can relieve stress
- They’re fun
Our two previous dogs were Cassie, a flat coat retriever and Brillo, a rescue lurcher.

We waited four years before getting our current dog, Zeph. He is now three years old but here is a post I wrote when he arrived:
Do you have a favourite animal?

My mum and my sister both loved dogs but I’m happy not to have the responsibility and cleaning up after them. I don’t really trust cats. I guess I’m happy animal-less.

Having a dog requires a significant amount of time and effort and, as you say, responsibility. For me, it’s worth it but I understand completely that having a dog isn’t for everyone. I had to smile when you commented that you don’t trust cats!! Any particular reason?!

I love all animals and have had cats, dogs, horses, and when the kids were young we had hamsters, fish, and lizards. If I had to choose a favorite, it would be cats.

I had a tortoise and gerbil as a youngster. If we lived in France full-time I would love a couple of donkeys!

Oh, and I meant to say you have some darling looking dogs there; Zeph is a cutie!

Thanks! Zeph resembled a guinea-pig when he was first born. He has grown into his looks, but maybe not his ears!
