The latest member of our family, the very lovely Zeph (Zephyr)!
Zeph is a Blue Merle Border Collie.
When he was first born, he reminded me of a little guinea pig!
In the photo below his eyes haven’t opened yet.
He has what I call ‘David Bowie’ eyes, one brown and one blue. His eyes could still change colour, although the breeder thinks this is unlikely.
We collected him on Monday. The two photos below show him in his new home. We are busy getting to know him and he us.
These early days, weeks and months are vital in terms of training. I’d forgotten how small a puppy’s bladder is!
We are all totally spellbound by this little bundle of fluff and energy.
If you have been following this blog, you might remember that I love dogs, grew up in a family of dog lovers and have always had dogs.
It is four years since we had our last dog. It has taken us a long time to find Zeph but it’s been well worth the wait!

Oh totally wow!!! So very very beautiful. And also I feel a little sad as for 13 years we had a wonderful blue merle cross but she was predominantly blue merle, with a coat that was bit darker than your pup and she didn’t have the blue eyes. She was a lovely and a bit barking mad as well! Your destiny is to have so many walks with him. Enjoy, enjoy x

Thanks, Penny. Your dog sounds gorgeous and I’m sorry if I made you feel a bit sad. Dogs are so very much part of our families, aren’t they? It’s early days but Zeph seems very intelligent (I may be biased) and a typical BC which will mean lots of exercise, mental as well as physical. I can’t wait until he’s completed his vaccinations and we can start going for walks.! I wonder if he’ll like France?!

Congratulations!
A new puppy is always a joy. We are very much dog people. They are a bundle of energy and a Border Collie will keep you exceptionally busy, I think. After losing both my grand old ladies this year; one in January and one in May (both Poodles), I think about a puppy occasionally. However we still have Penny (12 yr. old mix), Dylan (16 year old Mountain Feist) and Niko (9 year old Poodle), I think i will just keep thinking about it.
Good luck on the potty training. Border Collies are the smartest ones. Are you going to take him to puppy school?
Congratulations again, as you can tell, dogs are a very big part of our life as well! I hope you keep updating his progress on you posts. That would be so much fun.

Thank you so much, Terri! How wonderful that you have three dogs but very sad that you lost two others. Dogs are such marvellous companions and very much part of our families, so it makes it extremely difficult when they leave us. Yes, Border Collies are definitely intelligent and energetic and need mental exercise as well as physical. We will take him to puppy school, assuming they are open at the moment. You can be sure that I will be writing about him in my blog posts!! Take care x

We are definitely enjoying getting to know Zeph and he already seems very much part of the family. I see that you have a beautiful dog, too. I’m sure to be writing more posts about him in the future!

I’m probably too selfish to have another dog – but he looks wonderful! The eyes definitely have it.

I’m not sure how many of your readers are familiar with the antics of Max in the Lake District, but if not do look out for it on Facebook. It is such a wonderful record of a springer spaniel and his two ‘brothers’, all set in Cumbria. It is absolutely delightful, especially for dog lovers and lovers of wonderful scenery.

He is very adorable but I’m just a bit biased! It will be interesting to see if his eyes change – I hope they don’t – but we’ll still love him if they do. He’s definitely settled in but the training is ongoing – haha!

Oh he is exquisite – just such a lovely looking pup. Son and I have a long running campaign to persuade Gravel-Guy that getting a dog would be a wonderful thing (I grew up with dogs but he didn’t), so far he says “no” but we persevere…

I do agree that he is exquisite but I might just be a tiny bit biased!! I also grew up with dogs and I think it’s really important for children to grow up with a pet or pets, although I understand that in some cases this might not be possible for all sorts of reasons. It’s such a massive commitment taking on a dog and one that should never be taken lightly. We waited four years before finally getting Zeph. I can’t wait until we get back to France and I can take him for a walk along the Canal du Midi!!
