Music is so powerful. I don’t have a specific song, but I always have music on the go. I recently found an I pod Mini (that dates me!) and charged it up only to discover a playlist I was listening to when my husband was in Afghanistan 2011/12 and it gave me butterflies. Took me right back to that terrified/excited/all-in-it-together feeling.
The end is in sight for our army years, I love the song you’ve chosen. The opening notes and then Piaf’s vocals are divine. Maybe we’ll make ‘Je ne regrette rien’ our exit anthem!
Yes, music is powerful. I have a soundtrack to my life! I’m a bit of a rock chick at heart or so I like to think! Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, and the Stones, all take me back to my student years.
I cannot imagine how it must have been for you when your husband was serving in Afghanistan, but how wonderful to have discovered your playlist for that time. Coming to the end of your army years must lead to a variety of emotions. I wonder what you’ll do next and where you’ll settle. Hopefully, we’ll follow your new adventures through your blog.
When I started this blog post, I wasn’t thinking of Piaf, but suddenly she popped into my head and I knew then that was the song. Yes, it would make a fantastic exit anthem, Helen!
A classic! This song gives me chills (in a good way!) 🎶
