I composed this post for Bloganuary last year when the prompt was, ‘If you had a billion US dollars, how would you spend it?’ Today’s Bloganuary is, as far as I’m concerned, the same question but reframed! I haven’t changed my ideas; I have edited the post, so please read on!
As I’m Brit and we have the lottery, I have wasted a significant time thinking about how I might spend the prize money. As I don’t even do the lottery, this isn’t going to happen soon!
This would be an obscenely huge amount of money, so I would donate as much as possible, as soon as possible, to some of the charities I already support. Perhaps I would set up at least one charity of my own.
I would want to look after family and friends, but next it would be time to have fun!
I love wandering along the South Bank of the River Thames in London, so I would invest in a fantastic apartment overlooking the river. What a marvellous location for restaurants, museums, theatres, and shops!
Living beside the sea has long been a dream of mine therefore I would buy a property, in the Brighton area, with sea views or even its own private beach.
I love to travel; I would buy a ticket to India to discover more about my family tree. Closer to home, I have yet to visit Scandinavia, a definite addition to my travel list. I could venture north, stay in an ice hotel, and go sledding with huskies. The world really would be my oyster!
Perhaps I would buy a houseboat or a barge and travel at a slower pace.
With money no object, I could get another dog or breed dogs or open a rescue centre…
Luckily, I am already happy with what I have, but anyone can dream!
Aside from charities, helping my son and daughter with their mortgages would be a priority for me. And maybe that dream holiday- but I’d need the other half to consent.

I agree that helping our children would be a priority. I’m intrigued to know what your dream holiday might be!

It would be a tour of the Far East, including Japan. I’ve never managed to persuade Michael to the Orient or Africa.

Oh June, I think you had better win the Euro lottery in order to do all of that!!!!!
I would love to win really big so that I can spend quite a bit of time deciding which charities I could support. Being a philanthropist could be my new job.
As I’ve got older I find my need is to travel less rather than more, but I’d love to buy a caravan, so that I could go off and explore all the parts of our wonderful British Isles that I’ve never visited. I’d need to convince my husband that towing the van would be a good idea first!
He is in Cambodia at the moment visiting son and daughter-in-law, who live out there – he’s loving every minute. It’s far too hot out there for me and too far to fly too, so I’m spending the time while he’s away catching up with tv programmes and films and reading much more.
Thank you again for your blogs this January. They are making me consider things too.

Hi Sue, I think you’re probably right about needing to win the Euro lottery to fulfill my wishes!
I still love to travel but some of my choices have changed as I’ve got older. We toyed with the idea of buying a motorhome but I’m not sure that’s ever going to happen! I’m not a great fan of flying so I understand your reluctance to go to Cambodia.
The end of Bloganuary is in sight – thanks for sticking with me!
