Although I love to bake, I’m not a fan of eating birthday cakes. I find they are often too sweet, especially as I’m not keen on cream and icing.

This week was my husband’s birthday and a friend made him a wonderful cake. It’s a chocolate cake made by Yotam Ottolenghi, an Israeli-born chef and food writer based in London. He’s mainly known for his vegetarian, Middle Eastern cuisine.
