I don’t normally take up Facebook Challenges but when a friend nominated me for the ’10 Albums in 10 days Challenge’, I decided to participate. Here are the ‘rules’:
- Think of 10 albums that have greatly influenced your music taste
- Find the album artwork for each one and save the images
- Post one album photo per day for 10 consecutive days
- Make sure you don’t post any captions, explanations or reviews, only a picture of the album cover
- Nominate some of your friends to do the same
This challenge was very enjoyable and the only difficulty was limiting my selection to 10 albums. There are so many more I could have included. I also took pity on my friends and only nominated one of them. I also may have ‘cheated’ slightly by adding the occasional comment!
I have a Pinterest board which I call ‘Music with Meaning’ and some of my choices were taken from here.
My 10 choices are not in chronological order but just as they popped into my head!

- Kate Bush – The Kick Inside
- Santana – Abraxas
- Carole King – Tapestry
- Deep Purple – Machine Head
- The Beatles – Rubber Soul
- Alan Parsons Project – Eye in the Sky
- Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin 1V
- Neil Young – Harvest
- Cat Stevens – Tea for the Tillerman
- Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon
There are so many other albums that influenced my taste in music, originally, whether at school or as a student, far too many to mention.
I’ve always had an eclectic taste in music and I still enjoy discovering new artists.
Who was/were your greatest influence(s) in music? I’d be very interested to know…

Well, it seems June that it’s not only our tastes in fiction that overlap! I owned seven of those same albums. For my ten favourites I’d say (not in order of preference….that would be too hard) but here goes:
Kate Bush: The Kick Inside
Cat Stevens: Tea for the Tillerman
Carol King: Tapestry
Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin I
All about Eve: All about Eve
Dusty Springfield: Silver
Dire Straits: Brothers in Arms
Pink Floyd: Relics
Elton John: A Single Man
Fairport Convention: Liege and Lief
It’s quite possible that on another day the list could vary a little. Top twenty would be easier!
By the way, we saw the Carol King musical a couple of years ago. It was superb.

Fascinating and thanks for sharing your list! Top Twenty would be easier – in theory. I could have added Fleetwood Mac (either Rumours or Tango in the Night), The Beach Boys – Holland, Disraeli Gears – Cream and many more.

Definitely Rumours. Procol Harum’s The Early Years, Rolling Stone’s Sticky Fingers…..I could go on and on and…..

Some very, very fine choices there – and I can remember the excitement of the release for some of those and also the way we would pore over the lyrics, buy the sheet music and then ponder the meanings (oh such pretentious young things), but even now I’d listen to most of them and I don’t think they would sound dated.

Thank you! Yes, I’d forgotten how exciting it was when a new album was released. I still listen to most of my selection, especially on a long car journey. Thanks for passing by!

Defintely agree with you on a few of these, especially Kate Bush. My husband an I agreed that 10 is too few to choose!

I loved Kate Bush (I still do!) and in my head, I was her. I had very long dark hair that I crimped and a liking for long, floaty clothing!! Ha-ha – happy days!

There’s some iconic albums in there – not sure what I’d choose but I’m sure it would’t be as cool. I am still very much a pop kind of girl! 🙂 Thanks for joining us at #PoCoLo

I’m not sure that I’m cool but I think I liked to see myself as a bit of a rock chick, in my student days!! Thanks for passing by #PoCoLo
