If we were having coffee, I’d hope for a sunny day. Then we’d be able to sit out on the terrace at our house in Castelnaudary. I’d like to tell you about my recent trip to the UK and what I’ve been up to in my small corner of southwest France. I’d introduce you to Zeph – unless you know him already – who’d be trying to inveigle us into playing!

I would explain why autumn is my favourite season, not too hot, often sunny and characterised by stunning colours. The photos below were taken near our Castelnaudary home during Zeph walks! I think the one in the bottom right-hand corner is my favourite. Which one do you like best?

On my return to the UK, I noticed how the leaves had changed colour during my absence, looking truly autumnal.

The sad reason for my return was to attend my aunt’s funeral. However, she was 97 and had lived a full and active life. My brother and sister also participated in the celebration of our aunt’s life, and we were able to catch up with our cousins.
The last evening was spent with my two sons when we went out for dinner. This was an ad hoc arrangement, so we hadn’t booked a restaurant – not such a clever idea on a Friday evening in Guildford! We tried to find a table at a Mexican restaurant, a Vietnamese restaurant, and a few others besides! We eventually had a delicious, but pricey, meal in a French restaurant.
Another highlight of my visit was seeing one of my longest and closest friends. We usually meet up at a venue halfway between our two homes, Weyhill Fairground Craft Centre. It was a beautiful day, and we were able to enjoy our coffee and the clear blue sky outside.

When I returned to France, I spotted a poster along our road. The first image below, on the left, is my rather blurry photo, and the one on the right is a much clearer version!

I was intrigued by this and decided to do some research. It turns out that there is an exhibition of 250 Banksy works in a nearby town, the Banksy Modeste Collection. The venue is a former supermarket, which I will be visiting next week.

Finally, I would proudly tell you that I had learnt the name of a new tree – to me anyway! As shown above, this is a ‘Holm Oak’, a species of evergreen oak native to the Mediterranean. Who knew?!
Thank you for joining me for coffee, and I would love to know how your week went.
I am very excited to be joining a link run by natalietheexplorer called #Weekend Coffee Share

I believe fall is my favourite season too, due to the same reasons you’ve mentioned. I am not super old, mid 40’s, but I’ve noticed that I like it when the weather is just right, not too hot and not too cold. I’d say I started to care more about the weather 7-8 years ago or so, before that I hardly noticed the weather, hot or cold.

I’m much older than you but I’ve always been a chilly mortal, in other words I felt the cold. Now I can’t take it when it’s too hot, either. I used to be a bit of a sun worshipper before we realised what damage the sun can do. Thanks for dropping by and I’m off to have a look at your blog!

Sorry to hear of the loss of your aunt, but am glad to hear she had a long life and was well loved.
The Banksy show should be phenomenal! What a wonderful opportunity!
Enjoy those lovely fall colors while you can! They always feel so fleeting here.

Thanks for your comment and for dropping by my blog! My aunt was a special and formidable woman who will be greatly missed by friends and family.
To have a Banksy show in a former supermarket, in a small French town, is a bizarre but wonderful opportunity. I’m a massive Banksy fan!
The autumn/fall colours are so vibrant – I love them.

Sorry for your loss, 97 is a grand old age though. TBH I don’t think I would want to live another 37 years, but I’m sure my kids would still want me around (I think) Your photos are lovely, Autumn has some gorgeous colours. Thanks for the coffee. #pocolo

Thank you for your kind words. My aunty was still playing tennis in her eighties, but I think the last year or so was a challenge for her. Thanks for popping in, and I’m glad you enjoyed the coffee! #pocolo

97 is a grand age, June. I had an aunt who lived to 96. She was the last of many aunts, all of whom I have great memories of.
The Banksy exhibition sounds like a great event to attend. One of his works was done in Port Talbot, the next big town to where I live, and I was amazed by how much it sold for, given it was on the side of an old garage building. It stirred a lot of interest. I wish I had gone along to see it.
Happy Autumn.

Hey, I love the pics of Zeph. Love blue merles. Anyways my fav picture of the walks is the one of the bridge.
Strange you should mention holm oak but apparently we have it it portugal. The guy who supplies our logs said it burns far longer than other wood.

If I remember correctly, one of your children has a blue merle. Our is beautiful (IMHO) but bonkers!!
Didn’t know Holm oak was in Portugal, or that it burns longer than other wood. Every day is a school day!
