Last week I went to a sculpture exhibition in Castelnaudary with Mr FF. It was an unplanned, spur-of-the-moment visit. The Galerie Paul Sibra is situated in the town hall and is entered from the garden. Since we had Zeph with us and dogs weren’t allowed inside, we had to experience the exhibition separately. It was a lovely afternoon, and spending time outside was no hardship.

The gallery is named after a celebrated local artist, Paul Sibra. He was born in Castelnaudary in  1889 and died here in 1951. His works reflect his love of the region.

On entering the gallery, we were greeted by this magnificent cockerel. The same sculptor created the hare and the cat. I loved these representations,

The exhibition was free, but we were asked to vote for our favourite sculptor, which was more difficult than one might imagine! The sculptures above were created by an invited guest artist and weren’t eligible for the vote.

The start of the exhibition.

We have visited this gallery before, and I think it is an excellent setting for exhibitions, with the backdrop of stone walls and arches. I was so focused on the exhibits that I didn’t take many photos. Below are a few of the sculptures that took my eye.

3 seated figures with folded arms. Their body language suggests that they are cross!
These 3 figures look very cross to me!
A beautifully crafted figure of a woman. Was she a gymnast, a circus performer or something else?

These last two photos show works by my favourite sculptor, but don’t do justice to their skill.

I hope you have enjoyed a glimpse of my gallery trip.

Have you made any unexpected or unplanned visits recently? I’d love to know.
