Last week I went to a sculpture exhibition in Castelnaudary with Mr FF. It was an unplanned, spur-of-the-moment visit. The Galerie Paul Sibra is situated in the town hall and is entered from the garden. Since we had Zeph with us and dogs weren’t allowed inside, we had to experience the exhibition separately. It was a lovely afternoon, and spending time outside was no hardship.

The gallery is named after a celebrated local artist, Paul Sibra. He was born in Castelnaudary in 1889 and died here in 1951. His works reflect his love of the region.

On entering the gallery, we were greeted by this magnificent cockerel. The same sculptor created the hare and the cat. I loved these representations,

The exhibition was free, but we were asked to vote for our favourite sculptor, which was more difficult than one might imagine! The sculptures above were created by an invited guest artist and weren’t eligible for the vote.

We have visited this gallery before, and I think it is an excellent setting for exhibitions, with the backdrop of stone walls and arches. I was so focused on the exhibits that I didn’t take many photos. Below are a few of the sculptures that took my eye.

These last two photos show works by my favourite sculptor, but don’t do justice to their skill.
I hope you have enjoyed a glimpse of my gallery trip.
Have you made any unexpected or unplanned visits recently? I’d love to know.

Hi! I loved the hare, too. There’s something very appealing about hares in any form. Thanks for dropping by!

Lovely to be able to make a spur of the moment visit.
I had to book for the Siena Exhibition at the National Gallery….but, goodness, it was worth it!

I’m a fan of spur of the moment activities, but of course it’s not always possible!

I can picture you in your pretty village. It’s too hot here at present so an indoor occupation would probably be very welcome xx

Thanks, Jo. I’m temporarily back in the UK – just as it’s turned extremely hot in Castelnaudary. To be honest, I can’t take the heat as I’m getting older! x
