Zeph has a strong herding instinct. He looks at us as if he wants to say that he is a sheepdog, not a retriever!
Incidentally, I grew up with two Pembroke corgis!
Thanks for your comment, Hugh.
I’m very interested that your daughter has a blue merle, too! They are ‘special’ dogs, in my opinion! We’ve had Border Collies before but Zeph is our first blue merle. He’s a fabulous dog, in most ways, but he’s very anxious about noises. Your comment ended up in spam, this time – how odd!
Another quirk… I can’t like comments on your blog.
Back to the Blue MErle He is a very active dog so it is lucky they have a lot of land for him to roam. I would hate to see one of this breed locked up in a house all day. His hearing is not good. AND he has a cateract forming in one eye so his eyessight is bad. He relies on his nose. I think when they bought him as a puppy he was probably too imbred. A great shame. They are in FRance.
I’ll look at the ‘Help’ section on WordPress to see if I can find out anything about your inability to like comments on my blog and check the settings.
That’s so sad about your daughter’s BM. I know you must never mate a BM with another BM as that can lead to all sorts of problems. Zeph is now four and we are still in contact with his breeder. In September, she has invited all the puppies, she has ever bred, back for a get-together. Can’t wait!
This reminds me of Bob at the dog park. I had to throw all the balls before we could leave and he’d never bring one back. Thanks for sharing with #pocolo
Dear Bob! Being a collie, Zeph likes to round up balls etc. He then looks at us. as if he’s thinking, ‘I’m not a retriever!’ Thanks for your comment #pocolo
What a beautiful dog! My dog was a Blue Merle cross and the Blue in her resulted in a gorgeous coat but gosh was she a nervous dog! We never really got her over her fear of other dogs which was quite challenging at times. Still miss her though.
Thanks for your comment, Penny! I’m guessing it’s you because you previously mentioned your Blue Merle cross. Zeph is nervous too but concerning loud noises.
I always read both of your blogs but life has got a bit in the way of blogging-related things and, as a result, I don’t always comment! However, I love the diversity of your blogs and your writing/photos.
This made me chuckle because I have two dogs who say the same thing. If I choose one, they want me to throw something else.

You’re welcome. Our two corgis both have that herding instinct – usually to the cupboard where the treats are kept.

That’s exactly what my daughter’s blue merle does – neatly lines up things he wants me to throw. Looks at me then down at the toys/pebbles/balls.
