I can reduce clutter in my home by ejecting my husband, youngest son, and dog! A drastic solution, but they all bring clutter into the house in one form or another. Of course, I’m not suggesting I would carry out this action, tempting as it may be.
The image at the top of this post resembles our garage, otherwise known as my husband’s workshop. Just the thought of entering this man cave brings me out in hives. There are so many items that ‘may come in useful’: pieces of wood, coils of rope and suchlike. It irks me to say that this has been the case, occasionally, and I have had to eat my words!
My youngest son returned from uni during Covid and has taken up residence in his former bedroom. His motorbike lives in the garage, but at least he isn’t riding it! He is currently decluttering his wardrobe, but this is taking forever!
It is surprising how much ‘stuff’ is needed by a dog: crate, bed, lead, harness, drying coat, towels, not to mention toys. Does dog hair count as clutter?
I have always been – annoyingly, probably – tidy! My mum said she never had to tell me to tidy my bedroom as it was already tidy. I don’t know where this trait originated. Having a family and pets, encouraged me to be more forgiving about clutter. After all, aren’t there more important things to worry about?!

We don’t have a garage so all of my husband’s ‘useful’ bits are stacked on a shelf unit in the pantry, off the kitchen. I don’t have a hope in hell if he suggests I pass him something from one of the shelves, but he can usually find whichever tool. My clutter is mostly in the form of travel memories, postcards and ancient photos, either in a drawer in the living room or in dusty boxes under the bed.

I can’t say I have no clutter but mine is in boxes in the wardrobe or study!

Whenever I have a declutter I get rid of loads of my stuff but when I suggest to hubby we tidy some stuff from the kitchen, the shed, his wardrobe he claims he needs it. We’ve got items in the kitchen we’ve moved halfway round the world and back and I know he’s never used them. Thanks for linking with #pocolo
