I imagine that some people may think I have lived a long life already. I know of others who have not been so fortunate. Currently, I’m in good health and mobile. I walk, I dance and I can skip! Long may it last.
This brings me to a quote from Martin Luther King who said, ‘The quality, not the longevity. of one’s life is what is important.”
Queen, the rock band, sang “Who Wants to Live Forever?”
Both these quotes resonate with me.

Mother died aged 102 years…she had a hip replacement at 92 and a knee replacement at 96…..luckily for us both she had all her wits about her, a large circle of friends and many interests, from horse racing to politics. She said that if she had lost her mind she would not have wanted to carry on living. It is quality, not quantity which counts.

Your mother was an amazing woman. Going through those major operations was one achievement, retaining her mental capacities, was another. How wonderful that she had many friends and a wide range of interests. I think that as we age, it is important to mix with people of all age groups, if possible, and try to learn new things if we can. I do understand that this is not possible for everyone, as they age, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this post.

It’s the age-old ‘if I can stay healthy and in control of my faculties’. At the moment, possibly not!

So true, and of course, there are no guarantees.
