Is somewhere that doesn’t necessarily include being with the people I love. I’m not even thinking of my home where I always feel safe and secure. Of course both of these make me happy but, in the context of this post, I’m thinking of another, specific place.
A happy place will mean different things to different people. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a physical location. It could be a state of mind. A particular piece of music or a certain book can transport one to a happy place mentally.
According to the Cambridge English Dictionary the meaning of a happy place is ‘a memory, situation, or activity that makes you feel happy.’
Could I be talking about France? I certainly love being there. However, what I’m thinking about is something more generic. I was organising some of my favourite photos and it dawned on me that there was something that linked them. Have you figured it out after looking at the photos so far?
Here are some more clues:
The photos above all have something in common although they were taken in very different places; S. Africa, London and France.
The ones below were taking during one of the lockdowns and are all relatively close to where I live but still have something that links them with all the other images.
The next three are again quite varied in location. The first was taken in Winkworth Arboretum which is local to us, the second is a stunning sunset over the sea in Gran Canaria and the third was taken in Cornwall with St Michael’s Mount, in the distance.
And here’s Zeph, enjoying a local pond, sitting by the canal and having a swim in the sea. I’m (nearly) always happy when I’m with him but I have chosen these pictures because of their setting.
I’m sure you’ve figured out, by now, that my happy place is anywhere near water! There is something very calming and mindful about water. It doesn’t matter whether it is a pond, a lake, a river, a stream, a canal or the sea. I love walking beside all of these. I don’t mind at all if the sea is rough. I love the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. The sound of water can vary from gentle lapping to the splashing of a waterfall. I love this clip of waves gently hitting the rocks, so relaxing…
Where is your happy place? I’d love to know!
Lovely photos June of a collection of your happy places. I also enjoy being by water!

Same for me! I particularly love being by (but not in) the water in cities. Seaports, riversides…

Glad to know you’re a fellow fan of water! Yes, water in cities has its own special attraction but, as you say, not necessarily to be in…

Beautiful photos! You definitely have a thing for water. I am a hills girl. Put me up in the mountains, throw in some wild flowers, and I’m in my happy place.

Thanks, Lisa! Mountains are definitely beautiful but I’m not great with heights.

Hi June
We returned from Northumberland two weeks ago- huge beaches especially beautiful in winter. You would adore it.
However my “happy place” is Pink Floyd’s “The Division Bell”.
Instant relaxation.
Best wishes

Hi Sue. I have yet to discover Northumberland but every travel documentary I see or magazine I read which features the area, convince me that I need to go there. It looks so wild and beautiful. I know I would love walking along the coast there.
My happy place, in music terms, would also be Pink Floyd but ‘Dark Side of the Moon’.
Thanks for your comment. June x

I love being near water, but in general my happy place is just being outdoors. Thanks for sharing with #pocolo

I agree! If I don’t get out in the fresh air, I can go a bit stir crazy! Having a dog, as you know, means going our every day, usually. Always enjoy #pocolo

And you captured even more magic (happiness) in your fountain photo. I couldn’t help but notice the rainbow in it.

I’m impressed that you noticed the rainbow. Although it’s not my ‘best’ photo, I was very pleased to have captured the rainbow and the fountain. Thank you too for following my blog. I’m off to have a look at yours!

I enjoyed reading that. I live in a beach town, so I like to say my happy place is at the beach, but I think my happy place is in the woods. I enjoy the calm and tranquility of camping and being away from it all.

Thanks! I’m so pleased you enjoyed reading the post. I’m not a fan of camping – maybe glamping! – but I love walking through woods. Like you, I appreciate the calm and peace of being among trees.
