There has been a lot of rainfall this November in our little piece of SW France. In some areas of France it has been the wettest November on record. I’m used to rain but not here. There have been many grey days and I miss the sunlight.
The Canal du Midi closed on the last day of October and will open on the first day of April. Castelnaudary is a very popular place for boats to spend the winter.
The day before we returned to the UK, there was a dramatic change in the weather. The sun came out and it was the ideal opportunity for one of my favourite canal side walks. I love to see all the different types of boats that moor for the winter.
These photos remind me of why I fell for Castelnaudary in the first place. I hope you enjoy them.

Glorious photos!
All the rain comes in the winter, so the locals don’t mind. We need to stock up.

Pleased you liked the photos! You’re quite right about the rain of course. We were there in the summer and we were aware of the impact of the drought on local people. In that context, the rain should be welcomed.

Beautiful photo’s. I hope everyone stayed safe – I read about the awful floods and bridge collapsing.

Thanks, Jill. I’m so glad you liked the photos. The floods etc were to the east of us thankfully but dreadful for those affected, as in the UK, of course. Ironically, there was a serious drought in our area this summer, so the rain was much needed.

Yes, I can see why you fell for the area. A bright sunny day (even if freezing cold) casts such a different look on everything, doesn’t it. So glad that the floods didn’t affect you. We were not directly affected by nearby flooding but were on our way out to lunch one day but had to turn back as the road was impassable.

Yes, I would always prefer to have a cold, sunny day to a grey, wet one! Glad to know you weren’t affected directly by the flooding, either.
