Not a lot in my tiny part of the world, but globally is another story, which I won’t delve into here, as this blog is my happy place. March wasn’t an ‘exciting’ month for me, but nowadays that’s just how I like it. When I was younger, I craved excitement, but now calm and contentment do me very nicely, thank you.
There was a moment in March when I wondered if I had lost my blogging ‘mojo.’ I’m pleased to say that this is not the case! However, I did carry out some significant housekeeping on my blog. I had been aware of an unrealistic surge in my statistics, mostly from China. Unfortunately, many of my new subscribers turned out to be spam-bots.
To learn more about this issue, I recommend this very helpful post from Hugh’s Views and News: Look! Blame Me For A Painful Drop In Blog Subscribers. I’m a massive fan of Hugh’s blogging tips, because I find them clear and helpful. Hugh begins by asking, ‘Do you know who follows your blog? Do you care about who is following you? If not, you ought to.’
Hugh goes on to explain why it is not advisable to allow spam-bots to follow your blog, how to identify them, and how to remove them. I, for one, am glad to be rid of them!
Zeph continues to entertain and keep us busy, in equal measures. He has some interesting sleeping positions.

We looked after a friend’s collie, Bonny. Below, they are attempting synchronized sleeping positions.

I did publish one post in March #Wordless Wednesday โ Fancying France

The only issue with this type of post is that there is no explanation to accompany the image. Sometimes, the photo is self-explanatory, but not in this case! I came across these stacked toilets at the entrance to our local showground, a popular dog walking venue. Perhaps it was the influence of a recent Banksy exhibition I had attended, but I felt there was something of the art installation in the way they were stacked!
I’m an avid reader, and there was plenty of opportunity to enjoy some interesting books in March. The Hotel Avocado is the first novel I have read by Bob Mortimer, and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I would imagine it’s an accurate reflection of what goes on in Bob’s mind!
Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi (translated by Geoffrey Trousselot) was another interesting read. This book asks the question, ‘What would you change if you could go back in time?’ There are four stories in the book, which all set in a small Tokyo cafรฉ. Visitors to the cafรฉ can travel back in time but must follow certain strict rules, including staying in a specific seat and returning before their coffee gets cold.

As for television, I have recently enjoyed ‘The Other Bennet Sister’. It was a slow burner at first, but I soon became totally engrossed in Mary’s story, especially when she escaped her claustrophobic family and moved to London. Here’s a trailer for this Regency drama.
I’m always a fan of programmes involving travel, so the new series of Race Across the World has me hooked. This year, the contestants travel from Sicily to Mongolia – amazing!
Although March may have been relatively quiet for me, it was very enjoyable. Now we are gearing up for our return to France.

I did watch part of the last series of Race Across the World but I found the people irritating. I’d rather watch Michael Portillo being silly in the world’s capitals and we’re quite into National Portrait Artists, but I tend to use TV as background while I edit photos so it’s not critical. Easter was lovely here but I haven’t had time to download the photos yet. Enjoy whatever comes your way, hon xx

It’s interesting what you say about watching TV, Jo. We watch far less television when we are in France. Perhaps it’s weather-related; we spend more time outdoors! It’s become a little cliched, but I do try to live in the moment and enjoy the small treasures that come my way. \have a lovely weekend xx

Good to hear from you and that all is quietly going well. It will be so nice for you to return to France in a little while now that the days are drawing out.

Thanks so much for linking to one of my recent posts and for recommending my blog, June. I’m delighted to hear that you got rid of those spam-bots!
Regarding the photo of the toilets, there should be an option to add a caption to all photos in your blog’s media library that will then appear on posts. If not, then it could be that your blog’s theme does not allow captions.
I enjoyed ‘The Other Bennet Sister’, although I had to wait for the last five episodes to drop on the BBC iPlayer. It was great viewing. I loved the humour that was woven throughout the whole series.
And yes, I’m enjoying the new series of ‘Race Across The World.’ But waiting a week for the next episode isn’t something I enjoy. I thought those days of television were long gone.

Hi Hugh,
Yes, there is an option to add a caption to all photos, but I thought that adding one might go against the principle of Wordless Wednesday! Sounds a bit odd, I know, but I will definitely think about captioning future WW images!
Glad to know you also enjoyed ‘The Other Bennet Sister’. I thought the lead actor was excellent, as Mary. Where do you stand on Bridgerton?!
I must confess I’m a bit of a binger, so it does seem frustrating to have to wait a whole week for the next episode.
Thanks for your comment.

That makes sense now, June. Yes, I agree, Wordless Wednesday posts should be wordless. After all, the clue is in the title.
I’ve never watched Bridgerton, so I am unable to comment on it. However, take me back to the days of ‘Upstairs Downstairs,’ and you’ll have me talking for days.
Ella Bruccoleri played Mary Bennet excellently. I’m glad she turned up, as I did miss her from ‘Call The Midwife.’ However, I also loved Tanya Reynolds, who played the part of Caroline Bingley.

I have to confess that I have never watched โUpstairs Downstairs,โ nor โCall The Midwife,’ Hugh! I agree that Ella Bruccoleri and Tanya Reynolds were brilliant in ‘The Other Bennet Sister.’

Thanks for the link to Hughโs blog post. I canโt say Iโve had a lot of doubtful new subscribers, but I did have a period of several months when I had ridiculous numbers of hits from China. That stopped, and then America seemed to take up the baton. Thankfully, it has gone back to normal, but I am annoyed that AI bots have probably pillaged my carefully researched and written posts. Rant over! Thanks also for the book suggestions, which I will check out.

Feel free to rant away, Vanessa! Although I’m not obsessed with stats, it’s very frustrating to think that they have been tampered with, and the implications of that happening. Thanks for your comment.

Hi June, I totally understand the feeling of losing blogging motivation sometimes, and Iโm so happy youโre writing again! Thanks for the helpful information about spam-bots. Iโm going to check for those on my blog. โBefore the Coffee Gets Coldโ is on my TBR. If I could travel back in time, I would advise younger-me to take more risks and not wait too long for the โperfectโ moment because present-day me knows it doesnโt exist so itโs best to seize the moment. Wishing you a happy spring ๐ท

Hi Darlene,
Lovely to have your comment, and thank you for your kind words.
Spam-bots are annoying, and I’m not sure it’s possible to get rid of them all, but it’s worth a try!
That’s excellent advice to give your younger self!
Happy spring to you, too ๐

I like reading books and have enjoyed the book “Before the coffee gets cold”.
I have seen some shorts from “The other Bennet sister” series and have ordered the book at our local library. I am in a long queue ๐ .
I will definitely check BBC series on travel.

Thanks for your comment, Rupali. I’m glad we share some of the same reading tastes! I haven’t read ‘The Other Bennet Sister’, but perhaps I should.
I think if you’re interested in travel, you’ll love the BBC series, ‘Race around the World.’
