Unfortunately, I don’t have the answer Jo! The sculpture was erected in Castelnaudary just prior to our return to the UK, unaccompanied by any explanation. I’m hoping this might be rectified by the time we get back.
I have been reading your Brittany posts with great enjoyment and nostalgia. When our boys were small, we enjoyed some wonderful holidays near Carnac and made some magical memories.
Neither can I! This sculpture had just been erected when I left France, but there was no sign to explain who it was. I’m hoping there will be some explanation by the time I go back. Thanks for your comment, Hugh.
I may have missed any press mention, Hugh. I’m sure I’ll discover who it is when I return to France. I like it, too! It’s very impressive ‘in the flesh’!!
Have you ever visited Belfast? There’s a similar sculpture there called ‘Beacon of Hope’.
Hmmmnn…. no idea what this is about! A sextant type of object, maybe? The French do seem to like putting up random sculptures with no description or explanation… in Guingamp, close to us, they re-did a cobbled street close to the centre and re-organised the access (they did a great job, may I add) only to add in a HUGE (3 storey high) Bambi-like deer in rust effect metal. (Google “Guingamp bambi” if you’ve got nothing better to do). Probably cost a lot…
I did Google ‘โGuingamp bambiโ! (I don’t know what that says about me!) I’m speechless; it isn’t what I imagined. Perhaps it looks better in real life?! Apologies if you’re a fan…
That’s a good question. He looks a lot like C3PO to me, but I’m sure that’s not the answer, June ๐๐ฉต

That’s nice to know, June. I doubt we’ll go back but I really enjoyed seeing a little of that part of the world.

I’m surprised there was no unveiling or mention of who it was in the press, June. Nonetheless, I rather like it.

Belfast is a city I want to visit one day June. I want to see the Titanic exhibition there.

Can’t say I’m a fan – it looks so out of place…

That is an excellent suggestion, but I don’t know and don’t think I’ll find out until I return to France. Thanks for the comment!
