This WordPress Prompt of the Day caught my eye: ‘What would you tell your teenage self?’
Answering this question with the (supposed!) wisdom and life experience that I have now, I would say to my teenage self:
- Stop worrying! Put your thoughts and energy into something else. Things generally work out ok in the end
- Don’t sweat the small stuff
- Believe in yourself
- Be confident
- Be proud of who you are and where you come from
- Appreciate your friends and family and show them that you do
- If you are told you won’t achieve something, go for it anyway and surprise yourself
- Be kind to yourself and to others
- Don’t be a ‘people pleaser’. Remember to do what you want, too
- Have fun!
Of course, hindsight is a wonderful thing, and as a teenager, I’m sure I wouldn’t have listened to or taken any notice of most of this advice anyway!

Oh I do love the Bloganuary challenges no matter when they’re done.

They’re definitely worth a look, although not all of them are inspiring!

An interesting one, especially as a Mum to two teenage girls! To myself with the benefit of hindsight I’d say learn to choose your battles, have enough faith in yourself so that backing from anyone else is just a bonus and realise that every experience is a learning curve.
To my daughters who both have endless courage and wild streaks a miles wide I’d say; go out and have fun, just stay safe. Be decent and kind. And remember anything you put out on the internet remains in some form forever more, so if it’s not a picture/words you’d share with your grandparents, don’t post it.

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed comment, especially as a mum to two teenage girls.
When I was a teenager there was no internet or social media to worry about.
I think being kind is one of the most important qualities in today’s world.
