Many things made me smile last week, although I can’t remember some! I’m thinking particularly of ‘Bay’cake’. This is a relatively new salon de thé/restaurant on the outskirts of Carcassonne. It was definitely new to us, and we found it by chance,

We already have a favourite restaurant near Carcassonne. We have been having lunch there for years. It’s down-to-earth, full of friendly local workers and retirees. The food is homely, traditional and delicious, not to mention good value. Imagine the disappointment when we rocked up to discover the restaurant was closed for the holidays. There are several public holidays in France in May! Our fault for not checking first.

Mr FF checked on Google and discovered a new eatery had opened nearby. It was in the middle of an industrial estate, hidden behind a builder’s yard. We were very hungry by this time and decided to investigate. We had found Bay’cake! The interior was very pink, a stark contrast to the outside environment.

Bay’cake was full, but luckily, some customers were leaving as we arrived. The menus offered a wide range of food, and we both opted for bagels. I chose smoked salmon and cream cheese, and Mr FF had bacon and egg. We shared a piece of very tasty carrot cake.

The service was friendly, helpful and efficient, and we’ll definitely return. The whole experience brought a smile to my face!

What made you smile last week?
