I’m not a huge fan of sweets unless dark chocolate counts as a sweet!
However, I do love Fruit Pastilles. I like them so much that I have to limit my consumption. When I was pregnant with my second son, I developed a craving for these sweets – nothing else, just Fruit Pastilles!

I used to stop and buy a tube of Fruit Pastilles on my way home from work. Then, I would proceed to scoff one after the other until the packet was finished. There was no stopping me! Unsurprisingly, my son also loves Fruit Pastilles. Is this a coincidence? I don’t think so!
Rowntree’s originally made Fruit Pastilles in 1881. The factory was in Tyneside, in the Northeast of England. Nestlé acquired these sweets in 1998, and the pastilles were made suitable for vegans in 2000. These small round sugar-coated sweets come in various flavours, including strawberry, blackcurrant, lemon, lime, and orange.
I carried out some further research via the Nestlé website. Fruit Pastilles contain real fruit juice and no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. They are available in tubes, sharing bags, multipacks and cartons.
Fruit Pastilles are very chewy. I would suggest that it’s impossible to eat a Fruit Pastille without chewing!

I’m a fan of Valda Pastilles and Fisherman’s Friend, both available from chemists (drugstores) here in the Philippines. Those fruit pastilles remind me of Fox’s candies, back when they were still under Nestle.
On a side note, I’m reminded of La Cure Gourmande — which used to have a presence in Singapore. I was just talking with a blogger friend from Malaysia about this shop, and apparently its branch at the high-end Shoppes at Marina Bay closed down.

I haven’t heard of Valda Pastilles. I’ll have a search for them online. I do know Fisherman’s Friend but I thought they were only for when you have a sore throat. I think maybe ‘pastille’ means something different in the Philippines. I guess it’s similar to the difference between sweets (UK) and candy (US). This is what makes blogging interesting! I’ve never heard of La cure Gourmande but I just had a look at its website 😋😋😋 Thanks for your comment.

I’m definitely in the chocolate camp rather than being a lover of sweets. I cannot abide boiled sweets and basically the only sweet that I do like is, would you believe a Rowntrees fruit pastille! Like you. I’m rather fond of them and almost always have a packet tucked into my handbag, ready and waiting for a refreshing chew. My two sons also like them though they never buy them but rely on me having some to hand out when we are together. It’s only Rowntrees that I really like, others don’t meet my taste test!

It’s amazing Marion that you share my love of Rowntree’s Fruit Pastilles, as do your sons! I’m impressed that you nearly always have a packet to hand. I don’t for the simple reason that they would disappear so quickly! I agree that the pastilles have to be Rowntree’s, other brands are pale imitations. Thanks for your great comment.

I’ve dabbled with Cadbury’s fruit and nut and jelly babies but it has to be dark chocolate and Fruit Pastilles for me!

At Christmas, I always grab a tube of Fruit Pastels (along with a tube of Smarties). Those tubes always take me back to my childhood.
Tutty Fruties were always my favourite. Sadly, they’re no longer available, but Skittles are very much like them (only much smaller).

Those tubes of sweets are a staple of Christmas. It’s interesting to see which sweets are still around, which have disappeared and which have been rebranded. I used to like Maynards Wine Gums but I’m not sure if they’re still available.

They’re still available, June. I have a packet in the car. You can also buy a box of them at Christmas.

Thanks for letting me know, Hugh. It’s dangerous for me to keep any sweets in the car because I eat them non stop. I don’t eat sweets anywhere else but in the car I have no control!
