The Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden is a hidden gem, nestling in a wooded valley within the Surrey Hills. It is a twenty-minute drive from our house, and I can’t believe that I haven’t visited it sooner. The garden was opened forty years ago and is home to an ever-changing display of modern sculptures.

The Sculpture Garden was the brainchild of Hannah Peschar and her husband, Anthony Paul, a celebrated landscape gardener, over 40 years ago. At the heart of the garden is a 15th-century Grade 2 Listed cottage, surrounded by beautiful plants, ponds and mature trees.

At the end of 2015,  Hannah Peschar retired, and Anthony Paul, alongside curator Vikki Leedham, began working together to curate the annual exhibition, giving the garden a new lease of life. It has grown from a handful of sculptures to around 200 pieces exhibited every summer. Artists from across Britain and Europe display their work in the beautiful surroundings.

The curators have selected a wide range of amazing sculptures, representing various styles and made from diverse materials. These include metal, wire, glass, and ceramics. There are also more traditional exhibits in wood, stone, bronze and marble. Below is a selection of the stunning sculptures we saw:

I didn’t photograph all the sculptures; I wanted to enjoy them and appreciate their setting, without always looking through a lens. However, I couldnโ€™t resist snapping a photo of this family of deer!

Although I didn’t film any video, I found someone who did!

I had a wonderful visit and would gladly return, perhaps at a different time of year. The garden is open from April until October, Thursday through to Sunday. Tickets must be booked in advance.

Have you visited a sculpture park? I’d be interested to know if you have.
