I love sunflowers. To me, they symbolise the South of France and remind me of our Castelnaudary house. There is a field next door that is used to grow sunflowers. They are such a cheerful flower. I quite often treat myself to a bunch of sunflowers. They are guaranteed to brighten the gloomiest day.
I also have happy memories of the giant sunflowers grown by my sons, at primary school. How competitive they were and how delighted when one of their flowers grew taller than them!
9 Fun facts about sunflowers:

How interesting, I never knew they were the National flower of the Ukraine! I don’t really have a favourite flower as I lice all of them but at this time of year for me there is nothing nicer than a bunch of delicate sweet peas! Hope you have a good weekend. Marion.

I think different flowers offer different things. I like some for their perfume, some for their colour and others for their appearance. I agree that sweet peas are fabulous! I hope you had a good weekend, too. June

Sunflowers are stunning and it’s lovely that you have a field of them nearby that you can visit. I read recently that there are now some producers of sunflowers in the UK, although I haven’t seen any fields of them yet!

Ooh how I love sunflowers too – as mentioned above, many flowers do seem to have their own symbolism: in such a mystical way!
Your beaming sunflowers remind me of my time working in the South of France.
It is indeed wonderful how they turn their vast heads to the sun, as though beaming at it – just as I would!!

Thanks for commenting, Emma! Glad to know you’re a fellow sunflower fan. I can’t imagine anyone not being uplifted by sunflowers so I was very surprised to discover that some people have a phobia of them. I believe you’re not far from me – I’m in Cranleigh!

I thought the idea of a sunflower phobia was really sad – they are such wonderfully happy flowers to me. Good to meet a neighbour – and I see that you also enjoy all our lovely local bluebell woods for your walks… aren’t we amazingly lucky! x
