When I think back to this time last year, I can’t help but think how naïve and innocent we were, having no idea of what was coming. Perhaps ignorance is bliss?
Sometimes you don’t appreciate what you have until it is gone. I think I took my ability to travel freely, when and wherever I wanted, for granted. I miss visiting our house in France but not as much I miss seeing and hugging my family and friends.
Over the years, my blog has developed and evolved. I originally set up the blog as a means of recording our search for a house in France. Once we achieved this, I wrote about our time in Castelnaudary and this extended to travel, mostly to places not far from our French home, including Carcassonne, Toulouse, Perpignan and beyond.
It seemed as if my French blog had morphed into a travel blog, describing trips to Barcelona, Vienna, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dubai and the ultimate trip to South Africa.
In 2020, there were no trips abroad as we were in lockdown, so my blog became a ‘lifestyle’ blog or, in reality, whatever musings or ramblings that came into my head!
One of the main events of the year was the arrival of Zeph, our Border Collie puppy and he features frequently in my blog. He’s now eight months (adolescent in dog terms) and in the photo below he’s got his ‘I know I shouldn’t really be up here’ expression!

My travel posts last year were focused on the local area, in particular the Surrey Hills. I’ve always liked where we live but I have come to appreciate our neighbourhood even more.
Christmas was very different this year, for so many people. Here is one of my Christmas presents. It says it all really. I have to say I am so over mud now.

I get enormous pleasure from writing my blog, partly because it’s a creative outlet for me but also because I like connecting with other, like-minded bloggers. I don’t pay a great deal of attention to the statistics attached to my blog but, at the end of the year, I do like to see which posts have been the most popular. Below are the most viewed posts of those I have written this year. I have to say that this isn’t a scientific analysis, it’s based purely on numbers of likes and comments!

I’ve enjoyed looking back at the posts I wrote during the very strange year that was 2020,I hope that you have too! Thank you for reading and all best wishes for a Happy and Healthy 2021.

Wishing you, Zeph, and the rest of your fam a blessed 2021, June! 🌞

I’ve really enjoyed reading your poss and connecting with you during the year June, long may it continue! Hopefully travel where we want, when we want will be back on the cards as the year progresses and you never know, we might even be able to meet up for that long awaited cup of coffee or glass of wine! Take care, Marion x

And a very happy new year to you too (and to all your readers). We all need to look forward, as looking back at last year is so traumatic.
With a vaccine on board maybe we will all travel again, but I must say I am determined to see more of my own country. My husband and I (don’t I sound regal?!!!) watch Escape to the Country on tv and have discovered, virtually, many places we intend to see, hopefully this year.
Please continue with your ever evolving blog – always an enjoyable read. Thank you.

Thank you, Sue. It is important to look forward, even if that might only be a day at a time. Seeing more of the UK is an excellent idea and yes, you do sound regal – haha! Escape to the Country is very entertaining, I also like ‘a New Life in the Sun’! I get a lot of pleasure from writing my blog and I’m always delighted when readers take the time to comment. Stay safe.

That’s one of the aspects of blogging that I enjoy the most – connecting with other bloggers! It’s not long until my husband’s birthday, are you happy about me sharing your card (with a link to your website, of course!) on my blog? I’ve got a few ideas about writing travel posts without travelling!!

I set my blog up as an online journal then within a year we were expats, then it focused more on raising teens, switched to travel, gardening, animal tales, life in general and so jsut really stayed a diary with mostly random rants thrown in lol, I write for me though and if others enjoy it or get something from it then it’s a bonus. Happy New Year to you all and do continue to write what ever the hell you like.

I always used to keep a diary then stopped when I got married/had kids/plus working etc. Then when I had more time, an empty nest and was looking for a house, in France, I started writing the blog. Like you, I write the blog for me and connecting with other people is a plus. So, I’ll take your advice and write whatever I like! HNY to you and yours, too. June

That dog of yours is so beautiful. Happy New Year to you and yours, although I’m thinking that the latter part of 2021 will be the better part of the year. At the moment it’s rather dire! But we all have much to look forward to. Have a lovely weekend 🙂

He is very handsome but currently going through adolescence! Yes, let’s hope that this year improves as we head towards better weather and more vaccinations. I have no idea why, Penny, but your comment turned up in my Spam folder!!

Thank you, Penny! This, second comment wasn’t in my spam folder; how strangely WordPress can behave at times.

So sorry that my comment is so late. Despite my social life being severely curtailed, the days seem to whizz by and suddenly there’s another week gone. 2020 was indeed a strange year. Who’d have thought 12 months ago that we’d still be in an even worse situation? At least there is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. I like to look back through my old posts too.

There is absolutely no need for you to apologise, Eloise! As you may have noticed, I’m dreadful when it comes to commenting on your posts. I read everyone of them, without fail, and I always intend to comment immediately but then I get distracted and days – if not longer – go by. As for the current situation, I guess we just have to hang on until the better weather arrives and more vaccinations are given. Take care. June x

Lol, likewise June. sometimes I have to make choices between reading an extra blog or commenting. Better to be busy than bored though
